If you are feeling good about the state of the world at the present time then I suggest giving a look at Earth 2100 – ABC News. It paints a pretty troubling outlook of the future of our planet and societies, if governments around the world fail to change the direction we are heading in. Here is hoping that none of this comes to pass.
Environment
Environmental news and things I am doing to make my like more green.
Climate Wars
CBC Radio | Ideas | The Best of Ideas Podcast has a really interesting 3 part series called Climate Wars. It looks at climate change as a nationaly security issue. It raises some pretty shocking ideas about our future on this planet.
I Speak For Rivers

The Federal 2009 Budget has a few amendments to the Navigable Waters Protection Act (NWPA) contained in it. I suggest you check out the I Speak for Canadian Rivers site for more information and a petition asking that the changes be moved to the Environmental Protection Act review (Spring 2009). The concern in the amendments is the power it gives the Minister to skip a review of project impacts on navigation. Think about more portaging on those canoe/kayak/rafting trips.
Ontario Green Energy Act
If you live in Ontario then I highly encourage you to check out Green Energy Act and sign the petition. The Ontario government is supposed to bring forward a new Energy Act later this month. The hope is that the act will contain provisions for a much needed transition of the electricity gird to support more renewable energy production at the local community level. The act and subsequent follow through could help catapult Ontario to the forefront of green energy in North America. We have a lot of catching up todo to countries in Europe but this could be a great first step.
